Episode 19 - "What Have I Done to Deserve This?"
This week's episode, per usual, picks up where last week's left off. George and Meredith had sex.....and boy are they unhappy about it. So it begins with each trying to sneak pass each other whilst trying to get to work. Of course being that they work together it seems quite impossible that they will be successful. Hi-Ho Hi-Ho off to work they go.
Derek and Addison are also having a tough time of things ever since Mark showed up. They are both awoken by Meredith's dog and because Addison is trying desperately to get back into Derek's good graces she will walk the dog so that Derek can sleep in. This is significant in that while walking the dog she needs to urinate, squats and ends up with Poison Oak all over her, in the immortal words of Bailey, Va-Jay-Jay. It is Bailey, who while at the hospital to pick up her recovering husband, treats Addison in private. Addison believes that her contracting Poison Oak is direct punishment for cheating on Derek.
Christina once again is in a situation that makes her look as if her heart is made of pure, cold steel. And it is, but that is what makes her great. Burke in all his wisdom and hope tries to teach Christina to be more feeling.
Alex and Izzy are still on their neverending "roll in the hay" or should I say "linen closet". However, this week things got interesting when Denny, the sexy and charming heart patient in need of a transplant, returns to the hospital on the brink of death. While working with Izzy, Burke realizes just how much she cares for him as does Alex, and that just plain ol pisses him off.
So as all this is happening we have Meredith and George who are still trying to avoid each other, all the while trying to make the others believe nothing is wrong. Alex finally nails Meredith by saying, "So you slept with George, no big deal." Hook, Line, Sinker. As Meredith is explaining herself to him George walks in and overhears her telling Alex which makes him blow his top, insisting he would have kept it to himself. As he's trying to escape down a stairwell, Christina and Izzy join the pursuit and George admits to sleeping with Meredith, when he realizes only Alex knew he turns in disbelief and ends up falling down the stairs, dislocating his shoulder.
Christina relays to Meredith that she should have known that George had been in love with her since day one. Izzy also shows Meredith her disapproval of her actions and insists that she fixes things with George. George dislocated his shoulder and is helped by an attractive female doctor who knows him as the elevator doctor, and hits on him, quite unsuccessfully.
As always, Meredith finds herself in an elevator with Derek and tells him that she has done a horrible thing. Derek insists on her telling him and even goes so far as to proposition her with walking the dog with him every morning, in secret of course. He insists they are friends, that they can walk and talk. She tells him flatly that they are not friends.
Finally Derek finds out about Addison 's Poison Oak, and has a good laugh about it. We are also let in on the secret of what exactly transpired between George and Meredith. As George is packing his things we are allowed a flashback of the events as they took place. It seems that while in bed, George wanted to have another go at it, an idea to which Meredith doesn't seem so thrilled. You can see George beaming, while Meredith seems to be disgusted. Quite unbelievably, Meredith asks if George is done yet, and even starts to cry. George freaks out, and hastily leaves. We are brought back to the present and George asks why did she do it if she didn't want to. Meredith says "I didn't know I didn't want to." With that George leaves.
We then see George sitting on a wall by the Hospital and Burke walks out. Cut to Burke and Christina lying in bed together having a nice moment and saying good night, in the distance you hear George's voice saying goodnight, and the camera pans to George sleeping on the couch. You have to love Burke, knowing that inviting George to stay at their place will just aggravate the hell out of Christina.
Final scene, next morning, Meredith meeting Derek in the park for that dog walk. Somehow, I don't think this will be "a walk in the park" for either of them. Just how long will it be when Addison finds out about the walks, and Derek finds out about just how serious Addison was about Mark..........
